Empire Essentials Marketing: Thanks For Being Our Fans

If they say the sincerest form of flattery is imitation, then we feel very flattered by Empire Essentials Marketing.  They apparently like us here at Medical Web Experts so much that they have paid us the ultimate compliment by copying our website design.  We’re happy to have them as our biggest fans, but we’re not fans of their dishonesty.

Do these look similar?

Empire Essentials Marketing Site

Medical Web Experts Site

If they’re supposed to be a website design and marketing firm, then don’t you think they should represent the quality of their original work on their own site?   They might do a good job at copying our website, but the question is are they as good at search engine optimization as we are?  That’s really the true test of who’s the better business.  Even if it wasn’t their intent to copy our site at all, then their attempt at creativity missed its mark completely.

Healthcare Social Bookmarking Site Launched by Medical Web Experts

May 20, 2011 (San Diego, CA) – Medical web design and internet marketing innovator Medical Web Experts has recently launched the world’s first doctor social bookmarking website, http://www.doctorbookmarks.com.   By allowing users to share links to healthcare-related web content in a social environment of users with similar interests, doctors and medically-conscious individuals can explore and discuss fresh and relevant material.

DoctorBookmarks.com allows users to create a user login identity and post links to medically relevant content from around the internet while other users “vote” on the post.  The “Published News” screen on the home page allows visitors to easily see the most current posts, and users can also comment, discuss, save the page, or share the content with a friend.  Content posted comes from sites all around the internet – news websites, medical blogs, health IT updates, EMR product news and information, information about personal doctors or concierge providers, and more.

The practice of using social websites to spread information across a network of friends and users with similar interests – dubbed “social bookmarking” – has soared in popularity in recent months.  Social bookmarking websites like digg, reddit, and StumbleUpon (built exclusively for this purpose) have also multiplied and collected strong user bases.  Allowing users to bookmark and share information does more than simply give them a way to share pages with their friends and colleagues; it brings less-mainstream news and blog topics to light by presenting them to other users and often bringing them out in the search engines.

The narrow focus on medical and doctor-related information makes the site perfect for users with a personal or professional interest in medical topics.  “By having a dedicated social bookmarking site for physicians, we’re presenting physician-related content that would not normally make it to the headlines in mainstream social bookmarking sites,” says John Deutsch, President and CEO of Medical Web Experts.  DoctorBookmarks.com is helping to adapt social bookmarking for users with all kinds of personal and professional interests, and the site continues to grow in popularity.

Dermatology Westchester PR Gives Expert Information, Boosts SEO

dermatology-westchester-pr-gives-expert-information-boosts-seo

One of the major keys to a successful press release campaign is giving something the readers to link their own content to. Dermatology Westchester physician Dr. Abadir provides an excellent example of this type of campaign in their press release “Botox vs. Juvederm”.

The original purpose of a press release was to give newsworthy information to members of the media in hopes that they would in turn report on topic, bringing free publicity to the business. In other words, the readers of the PR provide the promotion. However, in today’s world of SEO, the use of press releases has evolved into an internet marketing strategy in itself. Links are embedded in press releases in order to build SEO and link building campaigns. Therefore they are distributed widely not for media readership, but for search engines. So in the end you wind up with press releases that are solely self-promotional, don’t offer any value to readers, and, therefore, are not read.

While this type of link building strategy is somewhat effective, its effect is limited. If a press release doesn’t offer anything of educational or newsworthy value to a reader, than the readers don’t participate in the promotion. Therefore the power of the press release doesn’t go beyond the number of websites that it is published on.

In his press release campaign Dr. Abadir from a Dermatology Westchester practice gave his readers something of value which in turn the readers turned and promoted.

Wrinkles in the skin can be caused by a loss of collagen or by repeated creasing and folding of the skin – such as by sleeping on the side of one’s face. “Fold a piece of paper or fold a sheet,” explains Dr. Abadir, a Botox Westchester provider. “Fold anything in the same place over and over again – what would happen?” The repeated folding and creasing action of the skin causes wrinkles, and Botox injections “relax the muscle in the area where the skin is creasing and allow the skin to lie flat.” As wrinkles are related to movement and Botox prevents muscles from moving, it also prevents new wrinkles from forming.”

In the excerpt above, the explanation given by the botox Westchester specialist, is automatically of value to online readers. They can copy this quote for use in their own articles, websites, or blogs which are then referenced back to the press release. This natural promotion effectively boosted this dermatology practice though promotional link building far beyond what writing for a search engine would do.

A similar effect can also be achieved by including statistics in your online press release, which have high linking value.

Reputation Managment helps improving medical practice

The internet has become an increasingly prevalent tool for people to communicate their thoughts on current or past experiences. The effect of this on the medical field is one of great significance to physicians who can inevitably be effected by the positive and negative feedback posted by their patients.

Even the most skilled and qualified physicians can come across a dissatisfied patient. It is also no surprise that it is this type of patient who tends to resort to the internet to express their discontent, as opposed to the large amount of satisfied patients. Unfortunately, this opens up the likelihood that that a skewed representation of the physicians abilities will be open to the public’s view online, resulting in potential patients opting for other physicians as well as current patients being lost.

Fortunately, physicians can be proactive and combat this prevalent issue with a relatively new resource known as Reputation Management. This is the process of monitoring, addressing or mitigating SERPs (search engine result pages) or mentions in online and social media. The main goal is to offset the potential harmful effects of the negative postings by creating a substantial inflow of positive content, throughout the main social and medical network sites including Facebook, Twitter, Healthgrades.com, Vitals.com, among others.

When 70% of new patients are currently utilizing Google to research a physician’s name and in turn landing on these various sites, it is imperative that a positive campaign be launched to assure their name is seen in an accurate light.

Increase Practice Revenue by Having a Patient Portal

Implementing a patient portal is a great source of increased revenue for any health care practice. Patient portals are online applications for doctors and patients that streamline communication, medical records and billing into one convenient go-to location. Having a portal can greatly help a practice bump up revenue and save time, money and resources.

Ah, the wonders of the internet. There isn’t much that cannot be done over the web these days. Filing tax returns, checking in for flights and viewing bank statements were all things people had to physically do in person or required waiting by the mailbox. The implementation of an online patient portal, as well as increase revenue, offers to make the patient’s life a lot easier – an obvious win-win. A portal now provides patients the opportunity to do all the things they once had to do at a doctor’s office from the comfort of their own home or cubicle. Patients can make appointments, request prescriptions and know their latest lab results without ever having to pick up a phone or get into a car. As most patients probably have super busy schedules, this should be music to their ears.

The hot ticket earner in portals is through cash-pay services such as electronic medical consultations and video visits. Electronic medical consultations with a physician can be done via email, instant messenger or text message. Depending on the practice, the fee for electronic consultations can range, depending on the method, e.g., a flat rate per email or text and per minute for instant message chats. An alternative electronic consultation option would be video visits, which would work like Skype. These give patients a feeling of being face to face with their doctor without having to leave home and can be charged by the minute.

Another great method of increasing revenue is having an online bill pay system as part of the portal. Whether a practice is a direct pay cash-only one or not, patients will be able to view their medical bills online and pay by credit or debit card. More importantly, patients will be more likely to pay their bills in greater amounts and on time, drastically reducing the need for collections.

Twitter for Doctors & LinkedIn for Physicians

twitter-for-doctors-linkedin-for-physicians

Twitter for Doctors:
Twitter is faster and shorter. It’s only a status message of 140 characters – so you really need to be careful. This tool allows you to build relationships and facilitate dialogue.  Even if your account may have been created to represent your business, forging personal connections and building relationships is also important, so don’t be hesitate to answer questions or just greet patients. Remember to be serious and protect your brand image.
Be sure to use hashtags (ie. #Health) on your Tweets and they will be visible anytime someone searches for those particular hashtags.

LinkedIn for Doctors:
This network is exclusively professional, so you would be able to list all your career honors and awards, conferences you attended, your university and also a resume. In this case, the more info you submit the better. Try to find some colleagues and get referrals. That will improve your professional physician profile.

Facebook for Doctors – Does a Physician need a Facebook Account

facebook-for-doctors-does-a-physician-need-a-facebook-account

To start with Facebook, you will need to set up a fan page for your medical practice.
Once completed, you can start posting. It’s recommended not to post too much or everyday, as you will be mistaken for a spammer; don’t post as infrequently as every 15 days either, as you need to be active. So you have really think about what you are posting.  Useful information, new practices and new discoveries never disappoint. And always remember, the shorter, the better. Everything in social media is fast, so if you publish an article that will take 30 minutes to read, it probably won’t get too much attention.
Providing useful content to your patients help them keep your medical practice in their minds in a positive way.

In Facebook pages for doctors, you won’t have friends – you have fans. Once you have 25 you could set up a Facebook address.
