Patient Engagement

Software that stays with your patients.

Your patients need software that covers the full journey — from the portal they use to book an appointment and access their records, to the companion app that follows them through a treatment protocol, to the platform connected to their medical device that captures what happens at home. We build across that whole range.

Patient engagement platform

What we build

Built for the visit, and for everything around it.

Most organizations start in the same place — getting the digital foundation right. A portal patients can actually use. Scheduling that doesn't require a phone call. Intake, records access, secure messaging. We build that layer, and we build it well.

What we also build is what comes after: the companion app that follows a patient through a treatment protocol, the platform connected to a medical device that captures what happens at home between clinic visits, the tools that extend the clinical relationship into the days and weeks where most of a patient's experience actually unfolds. The path usually runs in that order. We're built to go the whole way.

Patient companion apps

Mobile apps that stay with patients between visits — and earn their place on the home screen by doing something genuinely useful every time they're opened.

Patient portals

Scheduling, records, secure messaging, and intake — built around how your organization operates, shaped by your care model and your patients' actual needs.

Medical device companion platforms

Software that extends what a device does into a patient's daily life, automates what the device can report, and surfaces what it means.

Clinical operations

Patient-facing software rarely exists in isolation. Most organizations also need the operational layer — scheduling, intake, coordination, reporting. We build that too.

Clinical outcome tracking

Validated assessments delivered at the right intervals, with trend lines across the care arc — not isolated scores at isolated visits.

Care team visibility tools

What patients experience between visits, surfaced for the care team — so the encounter starts from a complete picture, not a reconstruction.

Built to connect.

Interoperability is a core requirement of every platform we build. We integrate with your existing infrastructure — EHRs, practice management systems, device ecosystems, billing platforms — using HL7, FHIR, and REST API where standards exist, and building direct integrations where they don't.

Digital Empathy

One discipline underlying all of it.

When our medical advisor — Dr. Kavita Babu, Division Chief of Medical Toxicology and Emergency Physician at UMass Memorial Medical Center — described what she does when she walks into an exam room, her answer was three words. She listens. She checks that she's understood. Then she helps. We asked why digital tools don't follow the same arc. That question became a framework we've applied to every patient-facing engagement we've built since.

“When I walk in, I'm not thinking about the chart. I'm thinking about the person in front of me — what are they carrying, what do they need me to understand, and what can I actually do for them. That sequence is the whole job.”

Dr. Kavita Babu — Division Chief, Medical Toxicology; Emergency Physician, UMass Memorial Medical Center. Medical Advisor, MWE.
01

Listen

Collect what the patient is actually experiencing — symptoms, behaviors, device data, caregiver observations — not just what they remember to report at the next visit.

02

Understand

Surface what that data means. Trends made visible. Cognitive burden reduced. Something the patient can use in a conversation with their care team.

03

Help

Give patients and caregivers what they need to act — at the right moment, for this person. Guidance, prompts, a clear next step. Present when the care team can't be.

Work we're proud of.

Patient Engagement

Building the app a feeding tube patient actually needs between visits.

A global medical device manufacturer came with a focused brief: a HIPAA-compliant mobile app to help enteral feeding patients and caregivers manage their daily routine at home. Discovery — including focus groups with patients and caregivers — kept expanding what that meant. MWE's Digital Empathy framework shaped the engagement from discovery through launch, and kept surfacing what the platform needed to become well beyond the original brief.

AI in patient engagement

Your empathy is human. AI makes it scalable.

We don't build AI into patient-facing software because it's expected. It has to earn its place — which means it has to make the patient's experience genuinely better, or the clinician's understanding genuinely clearer.

A few places we're already doing this:

AI patient summaries

Patients using a companion app collect weeks of data — symptoms, device readings, caregiver notes — that they can rarely synthesize before a clinic visit. AI does that synthesis for them: a plain-language summary of what's been happening, what's changed, and what's worth raising with the care team. The patient brings it to the appointment. The conversation starts from a complete picture.

Contextual content delivery

A patient three weeks into a treatment protocol has different needs than a patient on day one. AI-driven content delivery recognizes where a patient is in their care arc and surfaces what's actually relevant at that moment — not generic health tips, but information timed to the treatment, the condition, and the person.

Milestone and progress recognition

Improvement in chronic conditions is gradual and often invisible to the patient living through it. AI can surface what's changed — consistent tracking streaks, a mood trend that's shifted, a symptom that's appeared less frequently — and reflect it back in a way that's meaningful rather than clinical. Patients who can see their own progress stay engaged.

Security & compliance

Built for a regulated environment at every layer.

Patient-facing software handles PHI, connects to clinical infrastructure, and runs in an environment that HIPAA, device regulators, and internal auditors all look at closely. We design accordingly.

23 years working exclusively in healthcare means the compliance implications are already in the room before anyone asks. Our security program runs through every phase — discovery, development, and every production deployment after launch. We maintain a dedicated CISO, Pablo Bullian, who has led MWE's security program since 2017 — U.S. healthcare-exclusive throughout. Continuous automated penetration testing, annual third-party HIPAA audits, and secure AWS infrastructure round out the program.

Start the conversation

Tell us where the gaps are. We'll tell you where to start.

We'll ask about your care model, your current tools, and what patients experience during and between visits. No spec required — a conversation is enough to give you a concrete starting point.
